Brown, George

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4: 6-8 (KJV) Mr. George Brown was born to Walker Wims and Idella Brown in Miami, Florida on May 6, 1933. He was one of eight children. On Monday morning, April 18, 2011, God called him home. George attended the public schools of Dade County. Like others, he migrated north and settled in New York City. He was employed by the New York City Transit Authority for over twenty years before retiring. He was a proud member of the Transit Workers Union. In 1988, George and his wife relocated to South Carolina and shortly there afterward, he became a member of Savannah Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Barbara, Frances, Alice, Irene, Alphonso, and Reuben. He leaves to mourn his glorious home going: his beloved wife of 50 plus years, Violet Brown; two sons, Antonio of Bronx, NY and Orlando Nickelson of Brooklyn, NY; three daughters, Sandra Ortega and Brenda Williams of Brooklyn, NY, and Paulette Johnson of Miami, FL; three grandchildren, Tanya Ward of New Jersey; Shawntay Ward of Atlanta, GA, and Schriff of Brooklyn, NY; two great grandchildren, Michaela of New Jersey and Schviyah of Brooklyn, NY; one sister, Pauline McKinney of Miami, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends in Miami, FL, New York City, Nassau Bahamas and South Carolina. George was a man of great faith in God and his love for his wife was just as strong. His greatest goal in life was to please his wife and do all he possibly could for his family and community. He will be deeply missed!
