LAKE CITY: Mrs. Bobbie Jean Evans Odum, 75, widow of Oscar E. Odum, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, after an illness. Mrs. Odum was born September 21, 1935, in Florence County, a daughter of the late Clifton John Evans and Jennie Lee Joyner Evans. She was a 1953 graduate of Lake City High School and a 1956 graduate of the South Carolina Baptist Hospital College for Nurses. She began her 55-year nursing career at Candler Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, and worked at Roper Hospital in Charleston before returning to Lake City where she served as office nurse for D. Herman L. Singletary from 1960 to 1980. After his retirement, she was one of the first three employees and worked for ten years for what is currently known as the Florence County Disabilities & Special Needs Board, where she held several positions, including Director of Nursing. She spent the last years of her career with Drs. Coker & Phillips OB/GYN where she worked as a full-time office nurse until 2003, when she semi-retired and began working in their Lake City OB/GYN Clinic on a part-time basis until her retirement in 2011. Mrs. Odum was a member of the South Carolina Baptist Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association. She was also a member of Lake City First Baptist Church and its WMU Group II. Survivors include her two sons, John E. Odum of Lake City and Brian E. Odum and his wife, Kristen of Mount Pleasant; two sisters, Thedis E. Barrineau of Lake City and Jackaline E. Floyd of Warner Robbins, GA; four nieces and two nephews. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, 215 E. Highway 378 ByPass, Scranton. Burial will follow in Lake City Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 22, 2011, at the funeral home.
