King, Kathleen

Mrs. King, widow of G. E. King, Jr., died Monday, April 18, 2011. Born in Sumter, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Danner and Kathleen Keefe Heidtman. She graduated from Florence High School in 1937 and Winthrop College in 1941. She taught 33 years in Chesterfield and Darlington County Schools and was a lifetime member of SCEA and NEA. She was a member of McBee United Methodist Church, the UMW, taught many years of Sunday School, and directed and sang in the choir. Mrs. King was as an active member of WIFE that was founded in Bishopville and SC State Farm Bureau. During the last seven years of her life, she resided at the United Methodist Manner of the Pee Dee in Florence, SC. She was an active member of the choir and volunteered in the Reminisce Gift Shoppe. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports, cheer and march in the band as well as cheering on the Clemson Tigers. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Gil (Janice) King of McBee, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Kit (Skip) Gering of McBee, SC; sister, Peggy Jennings of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren and spouse, Roni Aktinson of Florence, SC, Gillum King of McBee, SC, Melanie (Cullen) Aultman of Little River, SC, Kip (Carol) Gering of New Orleans, LA, Kyle (Roger) Buckley of Hartsville, SC, John (Ashley) Gering of Charleston, SC; 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jewel Medford Burdell. Graveside services for Kathleen Heidtman King, 91, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at McBee Cemetery. The Rev. John Helms will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. A memorial service will also be held at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee, Florence, SC. Chaplain Anne Ayers will officiate the memorial service.
