North Myrtle Beach Lewis Young, 92, passed away at home on April 8th, 2011. He is survived by his life partner of 70 years, Juanita P. Young. In addition to his wife, surviving are three sons, Larry D. Young of Myrtle Beach, SC, Eric P. Young, of Campobello, SC , Lyndell L. Young of Greenville, SC, and one daughter, Jean Y. Gray of North Myrtle Beach, SC. They also have the blessings of eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. Mr. Young was pre-deceased by his parents, Will and Maude Young, 4 sisters, and 4 brothers. Mr. Young was born in Murphy, N.C., but as a 10 year old moved to Gastonia, NC with his family. He served in the Army in WWII. After discharge he drove a Queen City Trailways Bus, but later went on to Evans Business College. After graduating he started in the Insurance Business, and opened his own agency, Young Insurance Agency. In 1965 he purchased a 9-hole golf course, Grass Valley, in Gastonia. He later added 9 holes and it is now Crowders Mountain Golf Club. He followed that with other golf businesses that he either built, owned or operated: including Robbers Roost Golf Club, in North Myrtle Beach, Indian River Golf Club, W. Columbia, SC, Timberlake Golf Club, Chapin, SC, and Wood Creek Golf Club in Columbia, SC. He was a member of First Baptist Church, North Myrtle Beach, SC. Visitation will be held at Lee Funeral Home on Thursday, April 14th, 2011 from 5-7pm. A graveside service will be held at Gaston Memorial Park on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 1:00, officiated by Rev. Dickie Spargo. The service will be followed by a visitation for family and friends at the Bethlehem Baptist Family Life Center on New Hope Rd, Gastonia, N.C. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in his memory to Waterbrook Community Church, 86 Cloverleaf Dr., Ste. 206, Longs, SC 29568, Bethany Christian Ministries, or the church or cause of your choice.
