Speros, Christine Lee

Little River Mrs. Christine Lee Speros, 83, of Little River, SC, formerly of Maxton, NC died peacefully on April 10, 2011 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. For almost 50 years, she was the wife of the late Gus Speros who passed in July 1996. Born in 1927 in Dunn, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Eston and Lela Weeks Lee. She was raised in Dunn, NC on a small farm with her brother, the late JP Lee and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Benson of Illinois and the late Margaret Beasley.

Christine was a telephone operator who worked in Fayetteville, NC, Camp Lejeune, NC, and eventually in Maxton where she met her husband. They married on January 17, 1946 and settled in Maxton to raise their family. Through the years she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Loved dearly by not only her family, but everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her constant canine companion, Homer of Little River, SC; her three sons: Dr. Tom Speros of Washington, NC, his wife, Leslie (Grandchildren Parkie, Lindsay and Alexandra), Mike Speros of Little River, SC, his wife, Emily (Grandchildren Carrie and Morgan), Steve Speros of Marion, NC his wife, Lisa (Grandchildren Blake, Madison and McKenzie) and her daughter, Cathy Speros Tarrant of Underhill, VT, her husband, ret Lt. Col. Kevin (Grandchildren Shanley, Thomas, Gus and Tucker) and five great grandchildren.

She wanted it known that her strength came from God (especially Psalm 23) and that her decisions were tempered by Psalm 37:8.

She loved unconditionally, made the world a better place, and will be missed terribly. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Lee Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens.
