Steffens, Jean Renee

Jean Renee Barnett Steffens, 84, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at her residence. She was born March 2, 1927 in West Orange, NJ to the late Ann Elizabeth McMahon and Howard Davis Barnett. They moved to Spring Valley, NY in 1936 to live with family. She graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1945. During World War II, she worked as a lab tech with Lederle Laboratories in virus and Rickettsial research testing department. She married Herman A. Steffens Jr. in 1948 and graduated Rockland Community College, NY in 1974 receiving an A.S. in Nursing. Licensed by the state of New York, she was a registered nurse, an avid bowler for 45 years, life member of the NY State Women‘s Bowling Association, member emeritus of the Rockland County Bowling Association, attended numerous national conventions, life member of the Hillcrest Ladies Auxiliary of Hillcrest Fire Co. #1 Spring Valley NY, dispatcher for Spring Hill Ambulance Corporation and an avid NY Jets fan. She is survived by sons Craig H. Steffens and wife Danielle of Port Jervis, NY and Todd R. Steffens and wife Karen of Centreville, VA; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one great grandson; sister-in-law Luella Barnett formerly of Pinehurst, NC; sister-in-law- Katherine Steffens Worner of West Kill, NY; sister-in-law Carol Steffens Schilling of Arizona. She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years Herman and brother Richard Burnett. All services will be private.
