Ervin, Mary Katherine

Mary Katherine Ervin, 90, widow of Edwin Dargan Ervin, died on April 6, 2011 at the Methodist Manor after a long illness. Mrs. Ervin was born in Maxton, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Daniel Murdock and Kate Cottingham McQueen. She graduated from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and taught English at Southside Middle School for many years. Mrs. Ervin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence and she was also a member of the Old Homestead Club in Darlington. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Hart Ervin (Bill) Paulson; her three sons, Daniel McQueen (Anne) Ervin, Evander McIver (Claudia) Ervin and Edwin Dargan (Virginia) Ervin, Jr.; her four grandchildren, William Hayden McQueen Ervin, Helen Anne Ervin, Corporal Samuel Hugh Ervin, United States Marine Corp, and Mary Katherine Ervin; and her great grandchild, Charlton McIver Ervin. Mrs. Ervin was preceded in death by her husband and their son, Samuel Hugh Ervin. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Anne Ervin, 617 Rosewood Drive, Florence. The family would like to thank the staff of the Methodist Manor for the wonderful care and love shown to their mother before and during her illness. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Manor of the Pee Dee, 2100 Twin Church Road, Florence, SC 29501. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Mary Alice Ingram Chapel at the Methodist Manor. A private family graveside service will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington directed by Kistler Hardee Funeral Home.
