DeFraine, Glenn

Glenn DeFraine, 86, of Calabash, NC, was born in Rochester, NY on September 8, 1924 and died Saturday, March 26, 2011. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pami and brother, Jimmy. Glenn is survived by his wife Phyllis (Fifi) of 68 years; his daughter, Jill Hope and son-in-law, Paul; two grandchildren, Gigi Smith and husband Joe; Sean Grady and wife Jennifer; and three great grandchildren. Other surviving family members are his brother, Donald and wife Doris of CA and sister-in-law, Trudi of FL. Glenn was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Glenn retired from the Rochester Gas and Electric as a Foreman in the Line Operating Department after 37 years of service. He and Fifi retired to Calabash in 1985 where he loved to golf and play cards. His passion was fishing for King Mackerel. His Cherry Grove Pier buddies will be sharing fishing stories about “Mr. Glenn” for years to come. A luncheon will be held Thursday, March 31st at 1:00 pm at Saltaire Village Clubhouse, where family and friends may join together in memory of Glenn. A memorial service, held at Cherry Grove Pier, will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
