Layton, Ellen Louise

Ellen Louise Miller Layton, 83, the widow of Walter Willis Layton, Jr., went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, March 14, 2011 at her residence. Mrs. Layton was born a daughter of Sherwood Liles Miller and Mary Elizabeth Inabinet Miller on June 26, 1927, in Louisville, KY. She was a graduate of Andrews High School; was a former employee of the Georgetown Mill of International Paper Company. After the birth of her first child, she left IP to take on the greatest role in her life and future – motherhood. She dedicated her entire life to the loving, caring, and nurturing of her husband, children, and family. Yet her servant‘s heart was so great that her love and labors overflowed to her church family and her community. Her legacy of faith is revealed through her life of compassion and her testimony of faith was a consistent message of the grace of God. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her son. “Weese” and Walter were married October 26, 1947 and celebrated 39 years together. From their blessed union was born: two children, Walter W. “Little Walter” Layton, III and Jane L. (Larry) Rife-Todd; four grandchildren, William Jeremy Rife, Karen Lee (David) Pineault, Joshua Jay Rife, and Gregory Quin Rife; and three great grandchildren, David Pineault, Jr., Lillie Pineault, and Priscilla Pineault. Also surviving are: two brothers, Liles Felder (Mary Kate) Miller and Sherwood Manor Miller; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth “Molly” Porter and Rebecca “Bec” Duncan; and a large extended family of numerous nieces and nephews. A Legacy of Love will be 6 PM, Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Trinity United Methodist Church directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. The Miller-Layton family will receive family and friends immediately following the service in the sanctuary. A private interment in the Elmwood Cemetery will be at a later date. “Ms. Weese” will lie in state in her beloved church, Bethel United Methodist Church, beginning at 12 Noon til 4 PM on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.
