McPherson, Samuel

Hartsville, S.C. Laverne was born in Darlington, a son of the late Willie Archie McPherson and Marguerite Gandy McPherson Boan. He was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church where he attended for 51 years. He was a member of the Bill Baxley Sunday School Class and the brotherhood. He was also serving as an Usher and was a member of The Woodman of the World. In 1950 he joined the Navy and served in the Korean War until 1954. He worked at Sonoco Product Company for 41 years before retiring in 1989 at the age of 58 and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He loved his family, his friend‘s and his church family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, son and friend.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, his chickens and loved to travel and also loved his faithful companion “Molly” his dog. He will be missed dearly by all. Surviving are his wife, Mae Gardner “Libby” McPherson, son, Samuel Laverne (Sammy) McPherson, Jr., daughter, Susan M. (Tracy) Tyner, all of Hartsville, brothers, Billy (Beverly) McPherson, J.D. (Brenda) Boan, all of Orangeburg, S.C., sisters, Mary (Louis) McPherron, Woodland, CA, Shirley (Lawrence) Morgan, Advance, N.C., 6 grandchildren, Haley (fiancée Walter Goins) Tyner, Katie Tyner, Andrew (fiancée Katherine Edwards) McPherson, Anthony (fiancée Katie Huggins) McPherson, Katelynn (Wesley Scott) McLaughlin, Heather McPherson, Hartsville, 3 great grandchildren, Hunter Tyner, Trace Goins, Laci McLaughlin, Hartsville, one step grandson, Michael Warr, Darlington, one step great granddaughter, Shaylin Jayde Warr, Hartsville. He was preceded in death by his step-father, John David Boan, Sr., Great Granddaughter, Kaley Goins and daughter in law, Kim McPherson and a large extended family. Funeral services for Samuel Laverne “Mack” McPherson, Sr. age 79, who passed away March 9, will be held Friday at 3:00 pm at North Hartsville Baptist Church. Rev. Ladell Humphries and Dr. Richard Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home.
