Wiggins, Richard Joel

Richard Joel “Joe” Wiggins, 93, of West End, passed Wednesday March 2, 2011 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC. Mr. Wiggins was born April 14, 1917 in Montgomery County, NC. Mr. Wiggins was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. He spent over sixty years of his life working in the saw mill industry. Joe was a loving husband and family man and an avid gardener and fisherman. His health declined after the death of Margaret Jane Jackson Wiggins, his wife of 68 years, in 2005. He is survived by his sons: John Wesley Wiggins and wife Sara of West End, NC; and Alfred Joel “Al” Wiggins and wife Pat of Southern Pines, NC; a sister Margaret Eslick of New Bern, NC; six grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Mr. Wiggins was also predeceased by his parents Ollie Wiggins and Jenny Campbell Wiggins, a brother Archie Wiggins, two sisters: Ruth Morris and Alma Lee Johnson, and a great grandchild Miles O‘Brien. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Sunday March 6, 2011 at Boles Funeral Home in Seven Lakes. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Monday March 7, 2011 at Fairview Baptist Church in West End, NC with the Rev. Donald Gillis officiating. A brief visitation will be available before the service from 1 to 1:45 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
