Rogers, Mary Elizabeth

Dillon – Mary Elizabeth McIntyre Rogers, 90, died Friday, March 4, 2011 in the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC. Mrs. Rogers was born November 11, 1920, in Marlboro County, the daughter of the late Bernice Bullock Hamer and DeWitte Talmadge McIntyre of Clio, SC. She was the wife of the late Rufus Clarence Rogers. After graduating from Dillon High School and Columbia College (Class of 1941) with a B. A. in History, she pursued a career in teaching in Dillon County. She retired from the Dillon School system as an 8th Grade Math Teacher. She was an active member of Main Street Methodist Church and a member of the Wightman/Cottingham Circle. She was a member of the Rebecca Pickens Chapter of the NSDAR where she served as a past Regent. Mrs. Rogers was also a member of the Joy Club, The Retired Educators Association, and the South Carolina Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century. She is survived by her three sons: Rufus Clarence “Buck” Rogers, Jr. of Oak Island, NC, Henry Talmadge “Tam” (Diane) Rogers of Myrtle Beach, SC, and James Lewis (Sonja) Rogers of Blythewood, SC; granddaughters: Sandy (Al) Best of Wilmington, NC, Valerie Rogers of Latta, SC, and Liz Rogers of Blythewood, SC; grandsons: Jeff Rogers (Shannon) of Wilmington, NC, Todd (Ginny) Rogers of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Jim Rogers of Blythewood, SC; and eight great- grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Robert W. (Polly) McIntyre of Dillon, SC, and two sisters, Bernice Coleman of Latta, SC and Jean Coward of Lilburn, GA. She was predeceased by her brothers, Hamer McIntyre and John E. McIntyre both of Clio, SC. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, March 7, 2011 in Main Street Methodist Church with burial in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Little Rock, SC. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in Kannday Funeral Home in Dillon, Sunday, March 6, 2011. Memorials maybe made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Bill Pope, P. O.
