CALABASH, NC-John L. “Jack” Demmons, Sr., 80, died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Autumn Care of Shallotte. Born on July 27, 1930in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Lloyd F. and Florence Paecht Demmons. Jack was a retired electrician and hospital engineer. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a plank owner of the U.S.S. Worcester CL 144 and also served on the U.S.S. Columbus CA 74. He was a life member of the VFW 7288, Calabash, NC, member of the Elk Lodge 2679, Calabash, Master Mason of Compass Lodge #9, Wallingford, CT and a 32one spaceº Mason of Bridgeport, CT. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lucia S. Demmons of Calabash, NC; two daughters, Janet D. Thayer (Paul) of Plantsville, CT, Virginia Foote (Gary) of Clemmons, NC; two sons, John L. “Jack” Demmons, Jr. (Karen) of Plainville, CT, Steve C. Saunders (Janice) of Colchester, VT; sister-in-law, Rosemarie Demmons of Plantation, FL; 12 grandchildren, USAF Tech Sgt. Robert J. Foote (Heather), Michael T. Foote (Katie); USAF Capt. Christopher C. Foote USAF (Capt. Susie Foote); David L. Jakiela (Robin), Jennifer M. Jakiela; Jake Thayer, Jared, Jason and Jacob Demmons, Tamara, Melissa and Briana Saunders; 2 great granddaughters and several nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Elizabeth D. Jakiela and former wife, Mary Z. Demmons and brother, Gale D. Demmons. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at VFW Post 7288, Calabash, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW National Home, 3573 S. Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/North Myrtle Beach is serving the family.
