Guiles, Winston Deleon

Mr. Winston Deleon Guiles was born in Pamplico, South Carolina on September 21, 1943 to William Howard Taft Guiles and Icelean Brown Guiles. On Thursday, February 3, 2011, he departed this life at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina. Winston was raised in a loving Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age under the influence of his grandfather and uncles who were A.M.E. ministers at Mill Branch African Methodist Episcopal Church. Winston attended the Florence County Public School System and graduated from Gibbs High School in the Class of 1962. He then moved to New York where he obtained his Associate degree from a community college. After college, he was employed in several different industries which included a coffee manufacturing company and the Reliable Sample Card Company where he met and later married Mary Williams. From this union two children were born. He went on to hold dual supervisory positions with the city of New York Human Resource Administration and Allied Maintenance Service, retiring from both in 2005. Winston enjoyed spending his free time playing cards, with spades and bid whist being among his favorites. Winston had the gift for gab and always enjoyed a good “debate.” His favorite saying was “you have your opinion, and I have mine.” Good or bad weather, one could always find him lovingly tending to his red truck. Whether standing up or sitting down, he would always find time for a good “nap.” He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Mary M. Guile; three daughters, Eunice (Champ) Richardson, Vanessa (Sean) Cofield and Monique Guiles; two grandchildren, Crystal Alexis Richardson and Darius James Cofield; two sisters, Birdie Marie Thompkins and Dorothy “Dot” Mann; four brothers, Lora “Lank” Guiles, Sam (Denise) Guiles, John (Lillie) Guiles and Taft (Cynthia) Guiles; seven sisters-in-law, Inez Guiles, Annie (John) McCoy, Jennette Ellis, Martha (Richard) Shipman, Marie Currie, Stella Lee (Conell) Hall and Eva Mae Smith; two brothers-in-law, Ronell (Joyce) Williams and Sidney (Judy) Williams; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Winston was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Douglas “Mack” and William “Joe” Guiles; and a sister, Helen Lewis.
