DARLINGTON – G. S. Thomas, Jr., age 84, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the McLeod Hospice House. Mr. Thomas was born in Darlington County son of the late General Shafter Thomas, Sr. and the late Lila Mae Register Thomas. He had retired from Perfection Gear. Mr. Thomas enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Mae Bell Boykin Thomas of Darlington; two sons, Ricky Thomas , also of Darlington and Tony (Rebekah) Thomas of Florence; three grandchildren: Anthony, Elizabeth and Bridgette; three brothers, William “Buck” (Carolyn) Thomas of Darlington, Larry (Sugako)Thomas of Texas, Dillon (Judy) Thomas of Georgia and Charles (Maude) Thomas of Moncks Corner and two sisters, Betty (Charlie) Stephens of Darlington and Peggy (Cammie) Collins of Florence. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a son, Eugene “Sam” Thomas, brother, John Thomas and sisters, Merzelle Kirven and Mary Ellen Stephens. Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
