Sims, George
George V. Sims age 80, died January 26, 2011 at his home after an illness. Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late George Washington Sims and Vivian McKenzie Sims. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a Mason, a member of the American Legion, he was retired from Stone Container, and was an avid fisherman. Surviving are his wife, Eva Dell Tarte Sims of Lynchburg, four daughters, Lenora Evans and Tracy Sims both of Lynchburg, Dell Lourie (Mark) Muller of Turbeville, and Amy (Paul) Knowlton of New Zion, two sons, George “Timmy” (Kathy) Sims of Olanta, and Charles Wade (Sherri) Sims of Gable, three sisters, Jacqueline Welch of Kansas, Rosa Jean Alexander of Charleston, Buena Baker of Greeleyville, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Russell Evans. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Bethany Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 PM Thursday January 27 at the funeral home.
