Redding, Ruth

Ruth White Redding, 93, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at her home. Born September 9, 1917 in Maxton, she was a daughter of the late Alexander H. and Emily Stewart White and was married 47 years to the late Carl Walker “Jim” Redding. Ruth grew up attending Centre Presbyterian Church prior to her marriage and then became a member of Bruton‘s Fork Baptist Church in Bennettsville where she held various leadership positions over the years, including Adult Sunday School teacher, WMU officer, Choir member and Pianist. She was also a member of the local chapter of the Woodmen of the World. Ruth was a loving, caring and devoted Christian lady who had a kind word and smile for everyone she met. She had a good sense of humor and loved to laugh, even at her own expense. She loved to cook and loved to see people enjoy her meals. She also made an especially good chocolate cake that no one seemed able to duplicate. She is survived by her sons, Carl (Gail) and Robert Redding of Laurinburg; daughters, Emily (Keith) Irwin of Shawnee, KS, Rebecca (Glenn) Grant of Lumberton, and Mary and Robin Redding of Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Ben White, Mary White Watson, and Jim White. The family expresses their love and gratitude for her special caregivers: Julia Hodge, Rachel Jones, and Anne Griggs. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium, Laurinburg. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Centre Presbyterian Church, Maxton, NC officiated by the Revs. Rick Foreman, Carl Redding and Glenn Grant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
