Creech, Mary Ellen

Mary Ellen Kitchin Creech, 70, died Friday, January 14, after a gallant battle with cancer. Born January 25, 1940 in Bladen County, she was a daughter of the late Lawton W. and Margaret Cashwell Prevatte Kitchin Mary Ellen received her occupation health nurse training at the Scotland Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and began her career in 1960. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Creech; two sons, Joseph “Joey” Creech and Kenneth Wayne Creech (Rose) of Laurinburg; a daughter, Candy Underwood (Mark) of Fayetteville; a brother, Lawton Ward Kitchin, II of Warsaw; a sister, Ann Lee of Norwood; four grandchildren, Ted Underwood, Ellen Underwood; Jessica Creech, and Justin Berry. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Thomas Marshall of New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
