GREENVILLE: Mrs. Marian Bethea Dew, widow of Josiah Hartwell Dew, of Lake City and Greenville, died Wednesday, January 12th, 2011. Mrs. Dew was born on April 3, 1914, in Marion, SC. She was the daughter of the late Herbert S. Bethea and the late Blanche Smithy Bethea. Mrs. Dew was instrumental in bringing the Lower Florence County Library to Lake City and served on the board as its long-time treasurer. First a teacher and then a homemaker active in civic organizations, she taught for many years an adult women‘s Sunday School class at Lake City First Baptist Church, was an active member of the WMU, and served on the boards of the Connie Maxwell Children‘s Home and the Bethea Baptist Home in Florence. Mrs. Dew and her husband were each awarded, on the same day in 1996, the Order of the Palmetto. The family expresses deep gratitude to the CNAs, nurses, and other staff at Rolling Green Village and to Jean Snell for their devotion to Mrs. Dew. Mrs. Dew‘s surviving family includes her two daughters, Nancy D. Taylor and Joan D. Kellett (Mike); her seven grandchildren, Will Ashley, Hart Ashley, Marian Taylor, James H. Taylor III (Hala), Michael Kellett (Christine), Josh Kellett (Brandi), and Eden K. Martin (Steve); and her thirteen great-grandchildren, Hannah and Mikayla Ashley (and their mother Maaike), Jason and Simon Taylor, West, Mattie, and Marian Kellett, Marshall, Eli, and Gabriel Kellett, and Chappell, Annie, and Lydia Martin. Mrs. Dew is preceded in death by her two sisters, Evelyn Thomas, of Morven, North Carolina, and Ernestine Bethea, of Clio, South Carolina, and by her daughter, Betsy Dew Ashley, of Greenville. The family of Mrs. Dew will have visitation at o‘clock p.m., Saturday, January 15th, 2011, in the Lake City First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Funeral services for Mrs. Dew will be held at two o‘clock p.m., Saturday, January 15th, 2011, in the Lake City First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lake City First Baptist Church, Post Office Box 820, Lake City, South Carolina 29560; the Lake City Public Library, 221 East Main Street, Lake City, South Carolina 29560; or to a charity of one‘s choice.
