Matthews, Junior David

Mr. Junior David Matthews, age 74, died January 9, 2011 in a Darlington nursing facility after an illness. Born in Florence County, he was a son of the late Ingram Wilbur Matthews and Nettie Mae Lee Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a retired textile truck driver. He was a 3 year Army veteran of the Korean War. He loved music and played bass guitar for several gospel groups. Surviving are a sister, Bobbie Jean (Jack) Coker of Olanta. A niece, Alice (Herman) Feagin. Two nephews, Mike (Shannon) Coker and Kent (Katheryn) Coker. Two special friends, Gary Floyd and Ronnie Shepp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Matthews. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel with burial at 2 PM in Florence National Cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM (tonight) Wednesday at the funeral home.
