Martin, Marion

He was summoned to the sleep of death on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the McLeod Hospice House after an extended illness. Mr. Marion Martin, Jr., affectionately called “Boobie”, was born on January 10, 1952 in Florence, South Carolina to Marion Martin, Sr. and Jeanette McCall Martin. Marion attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Wilson High School in 1970. Upon graduation, he furthered his education at Denmark Technical College, Demark, SC where he studied to become a barber. He joined the United States Navy on September 6, 1972. After serving his country honorably for three years, he returned to Florence, South Carolina. After becoming a licensed barber, he continued this profession until 2000 when his health declined. Marion was united in holy matrimony to Barbara Myers and this union was blessed with three children. Later in life, he was joined in holy matrimony to Renee Means and this union was blessed with two children. Survivors are: his wife, Renee Means Martin of Columbia, SC; his children, Abdjul (Melissa) Martin, Banetta (Herbert) Williams, all of Charlotte, NC; Marcus (Vanelle) Martin of Englewood, NJ; Aisha (Steven) Stack of Ohio, and Jayna Martin of Columbia, SC; a step-son, Ryan Means of Columbia, SC; ten grandchildren, Skyla, Natasia, Royelle, DaKahri, Zion, Heaven, Elijah, Tallyah, Aiden, and Londyn; one brother, Willie “Bill” (Julia) Martin of Columbia, MD; two sisters, Evonne (Tony) Hinson of Seattle, WA and Alicia Hemingway of Loris, SC; mother-in-law, Janie S. (Enoch) Williams of Darlington, SC; two devoted friends, Jaycie Alexander and Willie “Feet” Wilson of Florence, SC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
