Jerry Mitchell Priest, Sr., 60, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 Born November 21, 1950 in Marlboro County, SC, he was a son of the late James Douglas and Gladys Marie Stone Priest. He graduated from Scotland High School in 1969 and served with the US Army as a helicopter gunner in Vietnam. He was shot down twice by enemy fire. For many years Jerry served as the market manager at Harris-Teeter in Bennettsville, and was most proud of his unique seafood market displays. He also enjoyed playing and coaching softball, going to the mountains with his family, surf fishing, singing in a quartet, NACSAR, and most importantly: his grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at North Laurinburg Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in King Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Diane Peel e Priest; a son, Mitch Priest of Blackstone, VA; a daughter Amie Jackson (Stacy) of Laurinburg; a brother, Jimmie Priest (Barbara) of Marshall, TX; a sister, Reda Priest of Laurinburg; three grandchildren, Zach Kendall of Wagram, Cody Ellis and Waylon Jackson of Laurinburg; two nephews, T. J. Peele of Winston-Salem, Burns Crotty and Beth Crotty of Georgia; a niece, Lauren Peele of California. He was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Faye Priest. Memorials are requested for North Laurinburg Baptist Church, 517 Lee‘s Mill Rd., Laurinburg, NC 28352. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
