Quis, Virginia Maslin

Virginia Maslin Quis, 96, died January 2, 2011 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital. She was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. on May 25, 1914, the daughter of Thomas and Martha Maney Maslin. She was educated at the Winston Salem School and graduated from the University of Alabama. She worked as a librarian before becoming a reporter for the Winston Salem Journal. She was Society Editor for the Twin City Sentinel and during World War II served on the telegraph desk. On June 17th, 1943 she was married to Francis Roger Quis of New York. After the war, the couple settled in Statesville, N.C. where she was actively involved in both civic and community life, serving on several mayoral committees, among those the Public Library board. She served as president of the Garden Club Council, Symphony Society and Iredell Committee of Colonial Dames and also served as a state officer for the Colonial Dames. She was a choir member at First Presbyterian Church, Statesville for 40 years. She also, served her church as Presbyterian women‘s president, deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and circle leader. In 1988 the Quises moved to Southern Pines, where she was active at Brownson Presbyterian Church, Weymouth House and also with the CCNC Garden Club. She is survived by her loving husband, son, Frank Quis Jr. and his wife, Missy of Southern Pines, N.C. as well as grandchildren, Virginia Sloan and husband Stewart of Charlotte, NC, Roberta of New York, NY, and Randolph of Charlotte, NC as well as great grand-daughter, Elizabeth Sloan. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 5th at Brownson Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines, N.C. A graveside service will be held at Salem Cemetery, Winston Salem, on Tuesday, January 4th at 3:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 330 S.
