Moody, Thomas

Thomas “Daddy Tom” Douglas Moody, age 78, died Monday, January 3, 2010 at his residence. Born April 28, 1932 in Darlington, he was the son of the late Henry Douglas Moody and the late Retha Bryant Moody. Mr. Moody served in the National Guard, worked at SONOCO and as a mechanic. Tom was a fireman for Darlington, also working as a Captain for the Rescue Squad. Mr. Moody enjoyed fishing, hunting and working as a mechanic. He loved his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Temple Free Will Baptist Church and had attended Flat Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving are his wife, Helen “Honey” Sherrill Moody, a daughter, Gee-Gee (Johnny) Gray, a son, Mike (Donna) Moody, all of Darlington, grandchildren: Adam (Kim) Buck, Blair (Jonathon) Turnage, Catherine Moody, Heather (Tommy) Locklair, Chris Moody; great-grandchildren: Makayla Buck, Jake Levine, Abby Locklair; step-grandchildren: Hunter Gray and John Gray, a daughter-in-law, Mae Moody. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas R. Moody and a sister, Betty M. Byrd. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at Belk Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 3:00 in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery.
