Strickland, Florence

Florence Brayboy Strickland, age 88 of Maxton passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at her home. Florence was born in Robeson County on October 18, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Berry and Lonie Brayboy and the beloved wife of the late Edward Strickland, Sr. She was a devoted homemaker and a retired textile worker. She served as a longtime faithful member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church. Mrs. Strickland will be remembered as a precious and loving mother, grandmother and sister. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, sons, Howard Strickland of Red Springs, Edward Strickland, Jr., of Maxton, Jimmy Strickland of Darlington, MD, Ted Strickland of the home; Fred Strickland of Baltimore, MD; her daughters, Aggie Nora Edge of Whiteville, Sylvia Locklear of Maxton, Carol Locklear of Maxton, Betty Jo Hiles of Pembroke, Pearlie “Nell” Hunt of Maxton and Lorie Ann Evans of Maxton; ;a brother, Carnie Brayboy of Maxton; twenty grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2011. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church with burial following in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Roger Adkins, Rev. Prather Sampson, Rev. Kenny Revels and Rev. Chris Locklear will officiate the service.
