Marion Ludwick DuRant, age 101, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Bethesda Health Care Center, Eastover, NC. He was a life long resident of Dovesville, SC.Mr. DuRant was predeceased by his wife, Mary Stackhouse Bryant in 1994. Born February 18, 1909, he was the son of the late John Oliver and Nettie Winters DuRant and the last surviving child of twelve. Mr. DuRant was a master craftsman and worked in the timber industry until his early nineties. In 1999 he was honored as South Carolina’s Outstanding Older Worker of the year at the Green Thumb Prime Time Awards in Washington, DC. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting and was a member of Robyn Neck Hunting Club. Mr. DuRant served as deacon and trustee for many years at Black Creek Baptist Church. On his 100th birthday, the Church fellowship hall was dedicated in his and his wife’s name for their years of service to the church and the community. Surviving are his two daughters: “Honey” Mary DuRant (Robert) McLaughlin of Fayetteville, NC, Ethel DuRant (William) Hughes of Charleston, SC: three grandchildren: Robert “Mac” (Julia) McLaughlin of Orlando, Fl, Ellen H (Scott) McCrory of Charlottesville, Va, Carol H (Kenny) Smith of Goose Creek, SC; Six great grandsons: Brian McCrory, Kyle McCrory, Kevin McCrory, Ean Smith, Zachary Smith, and Joshua Smith. The Family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Funeral home. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 18 at Black Creek Baptist Church, Dovesville, SC. followed by interment in church cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.
