Rhodes, Virginia Howle
Mrs. Rhodes, widower of Robert Thomas Rhodes, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Born in Dovesville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clifton Cleveland and Ray Gardner Howle. She was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church for over 60 years. She worked as a bookkeeper with Farmer’s Mutual Insurance of Darlington, SC for 38 years. She also worked on the Draft Board during WWII. Virginia had a love of gardening and flowers. She had a passion for her church where she was a member of the Loving Hearts Sunday School Class. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, James W. “Dusty” (Lisa) Rhodes of Hartsville, SC; daughter, Elizabeth Chaffin of West Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Susan V. Chaffin, Nancy E. Chaffin, James E. Chaffin, III, Stephanie A. Rhodes; sister, Gladys Stokes of Dovesville, SC; brother and sister-in-law, James E. (Marie) Howle of Dovesville, SC. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Flowers; brother, Clifton “Bubba” Howle; son, Robert Thomas Rhodes, Jr. Funeral services for Virginia Howle Rhodes, 89, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at Swift Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. David R. Deming will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. The family will receive friends Friday, December 17, 2010 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall prior to the service.
