Pigett, Ethel Mae

Mrs. Ethel Mae Ford Pigett, affectionately known as “Piggy” and “Piglet”, was born on February 14, 1944 in Florence, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Thomas Ford, Sr. and Lillian James Ford. On Monday, December 13, 2010 at the McLeod Hospice House, she departed this earthly life after an illness. Ethel attended the public schools of Florence County. For many years, she worked at Florence General Hospital, was an in-home child care provider and also assisted her husband at Smiley’s Drive-In. Ethel was a long time, dedicated member of Saint Beulah Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully on Usher Board and Senior Gospel Choir. She was also a member of the gospel group “Faithful Few” of which she took great pride and enjoyment. Ethel leaves to cherish precious memories: her beloved and devoted husband, Liston “Jimmy” Pigett of the home; four daughters, Barbara Jean Pigett of Virginia Beach, VA; Barbara Ann Pigett, Patricia McKay and Doris Pigett, all of Florence, SC; eight grandchildren; five siblings, Betty Johnson of Honolulu, HI; Marion (Priscilla) Ford, Huey (Barbara) Lee, Mary Linda Davis, Thelma (John) Jordan, all of Florence, SC; eight sisters-in-law, Mary Pigett, Clara Fulton, Lela M. (Elijah) White, Betty McCormick, Sarah Ford, all of Florence, SC; Sarah (Alton) McElveen of Washington, DC; Jenny R. Pigett of Columbia, SC and Min. Odessa Ford of Darlington, SC; one brother-in-law, Eugene (Debra) Pigett of North Carolina; three “adopted” sisters, Evelyn Washington, Lillie Mitchell and Ethel Lee, all of Florence, SC; a very dear friend of many years, Francina Brown of Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jimmy Ford, Thomas Ford, Herbert Ford, Moses Ford; and one sister, Elouise “Weezy” Marks, whom she held dearly in her heart. She was her best friend, her prayer partner and her confidant.
