Davis, Elease McElveen

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.” Mrs. Elease McElveen Davis was born to Paul Mitchell and Beatrice Cannon Covington on August 19, 1942 in Florence, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Saturday, December 11, 2010 after an extended illness. Elease, as she was lovingly called by family and friends, attended the public schools of Florence County. She was employed at Western Sizzlin Steak House for several years prior to becoming a homemaker. At an early age, Elease was converted and joined Maxwell Grove Baptist Church. She was united in holy matrimony to D L “Monkey Boy” Davis and to this union four children were born. She leaves behind to cherish her fond memories: two daughters, Denice Davis (Francisco Jolley) and Ella (Tony) Hines, all of Florence, SC; two sons, Robert Mitchell and Michael Mitchell of Florence, SC; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Mitchell, Jr., Johnnie McElveen (Darrlyn Johnson) and Elijah (Darlene) Covington, all of Michigan; four sisters, Bobby Jean Nettles and Queenester McElveen of Florence, SC; Leona McElveen and Alleta Covington of Michigan; five sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Willie) Coleman, Daisy (Torris) Vanderhall, Cornelia Davis, Ella Louise Douglas and Rosa (Willie) McElveen, all of Florence, SC; four brothers-in-law, Paul (Mae Frances) Davis, Eli (Cynthia) Davis, Jake Davis (Clara Vanderhall) and Michael Davis (Emma Graves), all of Florence, SC; three special cousins, Catherine Johnson, Catherine Aiken of Florence, SC, and James Merritt of New York; two special friends, Minnie Jolley of Riverside, CA, and Vanessa Harkless of Florence, SC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
