Lewis Jr, Walter
Mr. Lewis died Monday, December 13, 2010. Born March 15, 1916, he was the only son of Dr. Walter Keys Lewis, Sr. and Mae Alford Lewis of Columbia. He graduated from Clemson in 1937 with a degree in Textile Chemistry and began a career with Sonoco Products Company in Hartsville. He was a veteran of World War II, serving under General George Patton, and was awarded the Legion of Merit. He was active in both civic and church affairs, being a long-time member of St. Bartholomew‘s Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Henrietta Miles Lewis. He is survived by his sons, Walter Keys Lewis, III (Eve) of Greer, SC and Allen M. Lewis (Kay) of West Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Walter K. Lewis, Jr., 94, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at St. Bartholomew‘s Episcopal Church. Fr. Michael Ridgill will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is serving the family. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish Hall.
