Kenworthy, Mary Jane

Mary Jane “Miggie” Kenworthy (nee Bausman) died peacefully at home on December 12, 2010. She was born in Lancaster, PA. in 1925, the daughter of Mary Hopkins Bausman and John Watts Baer Bausman, Jr. She attended The Shippen School and graduated from Vassar College. She married Hugh Kenworthy, Jr. of Coatesville, PA. in 1946. They were together until Hugh‘s death in 1994 and were parents to five sons. Mary Jane was an accomplished equestrienne, golfer, gardener and world traveler. She was active in various civic and charitable causes and for many years presided over a local chapter of The Planned Parenthood Federation of America. A resident of Chester County, PA. for most of her life, Mary Jane lived in Pinehurst in later years, and for the past eleven years at Belle Meade in Southern Pines, NC . She is survived by her brother, John W. B. Bausman III, her sons, Hugh, Tom, Jake, Sam and Peter Kenworthy, seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was a remarkable and exceptional woman who lived a life full of kind acts, straight talk and boundless energy. She will be sadly missed by her family and her many devoted friends. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Belle Meade Chapel in Southern Pines, N.C. on January 8 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception.
