She received her education through the Florence County school system. Eddie Mae graduated from Gibbs High School in 1958. She accepted Christ at an early age while attending Spring Branch Baptist Church. In 1959, she moved to New York and joined St. John AME Church under the ministry of the late Rev. Leroy Judge. Eddie Mae served on many boards such as the Missionary, Stewardess and the Pastor’s Aide however, she was most passionate about serving on the Usher board because of Psalm 84:10 “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” On October 11, 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Lora Langston (Lank) Guiles and from this union two children were born, Ronald and Andrea. In 1996, she retired from the Human Resources Administration as a supervisor in the Income Maintenance Program. She was a member of the Communications Workers of American Local 1180 union. Later that year, she moved back to Pamplico, South Carolina and joined the Prince Hall Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated, Goodwill Chapter #107.
