VanderHoek, Lane
Lane VanderHoek, age 77, passed away at his home in Sanford, North Carolina on Monday, November 29, 2010. Born on October 5, 1933 in Pontiac, Michigan, he was a veteran of his country and served in the United States Army. He graduated from the Lawrence Institute of Technology in Michigan where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1964. He retired from General Motors after a 36 year career, serving in several engineering positions. Just after his retirement he was called back as a contract employee to coordinate the 20th Anniversary Trans Am project, which became the 1989 Indy 500 Pace Car. Mr. and Mrs. VanderHoek have resided in Carolina Trace in Sanford since that time. He volunteered at the Barbecue Presbyterian and First Presbyterian Church of Sanford, served on the Advisory Board of the UNC Thurston Arthritis Center, and participated in missionary work in Belize and the Dominican Republic. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Campbell VanderHoek of Sanford, NC, by his daughter, Mary Krejci and husband John of Sparta, NJ; and son Michael Vander Hoek and wife Sarah of Gaithersburg, MD; his sister Mae Riley and husband Tom of Waterford, MI. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Eric Krejci of San Francisco, CA; Lindsay Wellman and her husband David, of Shillington, PA; and Sam and Elise Hoffman Vander Hoek of Gaithersburg, MD. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Barbecue Presbyterian Church in Sanford, NC with Rev. Sandy Williams and Rev. Dr. Stuart T. Wilson officiating. The family will also receive friends on Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.
