Powers, Violet

Violet R. Barfield Powers, age 81, wife of the late James Powers passed away November 15, 2010, at Conway Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Ms. Powers was born October 21, 1929 a daughter of the late Charlton and Hallie Hodge Richburg. She was a member of Gethsemane Freewill Baptist Pentecostal Church. Surviving are two sons Julius D. Barfield Jr. (Betty), of North Charleston S.C., James A. Barfield (Betty) of Ladson S.C., two daughters Kathryn Black (Scott) and Barbara Hutson (Rocky) all of Johns Island S.C., one brother Patrick Richburg of Sumter S.C., two sisters Verlin Wingate and Gladys Avery both of Sumter S.C., ten grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren. Ms. Powers was predeceased by four brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Norris Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the Gethsemane Freewill Baptist Pentecostal Church Cemetery. The family will recieve friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the funeral home.
