William Pate 88 of Pinehurst, died Saturday, November 13, 2010 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital after many years of deteriorating health. Born in Raeford, NC; one of sixteen children to the late William and Flora Ann Pate. A funeral service will be held 2PM Wednesday November 17, 2010 at A New Beginning Assembly of God Church in Vass with the Rev. Mary Joe Andrews and Rev. Bucky Hendrix officiating. In his early years Mr. Pate worked as a busman at the Carolina Hotel and the Aberdeen Furniture Factory. Early in life Mr. Pate was involved in a car accident, this left him disabled and living in nursing facilities for most of his adult life. Although he was disabled, he gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life that we all should be thankful for. A true test of a person‘s courage and conviction in life is how they handle life in the face of extreme adversity. Mr. Pate accepted his destiny with grace and courage and never moped or complained. Mr. Pate‘s willpower to live and strength should be admired by many. Mr. Pate is survived by three sisters, Margaret Wilson of Taylor Town, Evelyn Wilson of Carthage, Grace Elliot of Red Springs, NC; and a brother, Fred Pate of Carthage. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8PM Tuesday November 16, 2010 at A New Beginning Assembly of God Church. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Boles Funeral Home at 425 West Pennsylvania Ave. Southern Pines, NC 28387 to help assist the family.
