Young, John William

William (Bill) P. Young died Thursday November 4, 2010 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital located in Pinehurst, NC. Mr. Young was born June 20, 1928, in Winston Salem, N.C. to Mr. and Mrs. Max P. Young. He was a member of Home Moravian Church, where he participated in the brass band. Mr. Young graduated from Reynolds High School. He then served in the U.S. Army and upon completion of his military service, earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Wake Forest College in 1952. He was an active member of Lamba Chi Fraternity. Bill worked as a manager in the Textile Industry for companies such as Washington Mills and continued for 40+ years in positions with Hanes, Fieldcrest and Modern Fibers until retiring from Vest Textiles in 1991. Mr. Young was a member of many civic organizations including the Jaycees, Boy Scouts and Volunteer Fireman Associations. He was an avid golfer, bridge player, skeet shooter and wood craftsman. Bill joined St. Matthews Episcopal Church in 1975 where he served on the vestry in a number of positions. He continued his work within the Episcopal-Anglican Church dioceses throughout his life. Mr. Young was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Max Young and Mrs. Maggie Sheppard Young, and his brother, Dr. Charles G. Young. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Barbara Lake Young Aderholt of Birmingham, AL. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Young of Whispering Pines, NC; his three daughters Mrs. Rebecca Y. Stafford and husband Douglas, of Albemarle N.C.; Mrs. Jamie Y. Martin and husband Steve, of Tifton GA; Mrs. Barbara Y. Tysinger and husband Terry, of Madison, N.C.; as well as six grandchildren, Elizabeth Whittington, Jamie Stafford, Sheppard Martin, Blake Martin, Rebecca Tysinger and Jacob Tysinger, and great-grandchild Joseph Douglas Whittington as well as three stepchildren, Carolyn Taylor and family of Meridian Mississippi, Bill Harrison and family of Vass, NC, and Greg Williams of Fayetteville, NC. A Memorial Service will be held November 13th at 11:00 AM at Christ Church – Anglican, 750 Fairway Drive, Southern Pines, N.C. Memorials may be made to Christ Church – Anglican, PO Box 605, Pinehurst, NC 28370, or charity of choice. Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines is serving the family.
