Chavis, Marguerite Hunt
Marguerite Hunt Smith Chavis of Maxton passed away on Monday, November 8, 2010 at the age of 85. Marguerite was born February 12, 1925 in Robeson County, daughter of the late Samuel H. Hunt and Rachel Hammond Hunt. She was the beloved wife of her first husband, the late Jesse Arnold Smith and second husband, the late Fadrick “Thad” Chavis. She devoted her to loving and caring for others. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant retiring from Sotland Memorial Hospital after many years of dedicated service. She served as a longtime member of Green Grove United Methodist Church. Marguerite was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Chavis was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry Doyle Hunt, sisters, Queen Hunt and Velma Ivey and a host of step brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Ronnie Smith and wife Jo of Laurel Hill, Sue Wagner and husband Ronald of Maxton, James Chavis of Laurinburg and Angela Chavis of Laurinburg; sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and a special caregiver, great grandson, Cody Freeman. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Don Malpass and Rev. Howard Harding. Burial will follow the service at Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9th at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
