Robert Stanfield Oliver, affectionately known as “Bob,” passed away peacefully Saturday morning at his home. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday, November 8, at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Ralph Brown. Visitation will follow the service in the Nettie Hammond Fellowship Hall. He is survived by his two sons, Marty Oliver of Charlotte and Larry Oliver of Laurinburg; two brothers, Thomas Oliver of Charlotte and John Oliver of Fairmont; a sister, Elsie Currie of Lumberton; three granddaughters, Kristen Oliver, Laurel Oliver, and Lindsey Oliver. Born September 5, 1924 in Robeson County, he was a son of the late Clayton and Leila Smith Oliver. He served with the US Navy in World War II, and later joined Red Willis in the operations of City Barber Shop in Laurinburg, where he remained until his retirement after over 45 years of service. Bob was a member of the Laurinburg Kiwanis Club, the American Legion- where he helped with the concession stand at Legion Park, and working in the Habitat for Humanity Home Store. He also enjoyed photography and collecting antique cameras.
