I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” II Timothy 4:6-7 KJV Mrs. Laura “No” Williams Swann, age 93, the daughter of Chester and Kate Smalls Williams, was born on March 31, 1917 in Florence, South Carolina. On Tuesday, October 26, 2010, she “finished her course” and entered into eternal rest after an illness. “No”, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, attended the public schools of Florence County and furthered her education at Monroe Business School, Bronx, NY. She worked in the clerical field at several New York businesses. Mrs. Laura returned to Florence, SC in 1969 and united in fellowship with Mount Zion United Methodist Church and remained faithful until her health declined. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as the Financial Secretary for many years. With declining health, she went to live with her nephew, George Brown and family in Summerville, SC where she remained until her demise. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Swann; and six siblings, Chester Williams, Annie McDowell, James “Bo” Williams, Tina Williams, Inez Brown and Ladson Williams. Left to cherish her memory: one niece, Diane DeNully of Bronx, NY; four nephews, Leroy (Nena) McDowell and Michael Brown of Bronx, NY; Chester Williams of Florence, SC and George (Shirley) Brown of Summerville, SC; cousins, Ada Richards of Bronx, NY; Oliver James of Baltimore, MD and Henrietta Nesmith of Nesmith, SC; and a host of grand nieces, grand nephews, other relatives and friends.
