Lonie Rudd, 90 of Seven Lakes died Monday November 1, 2010 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Dr. Rudd was born September 13, 1920 in Benton, KY to Oscar Allen Rudd and Alice June Rudd. A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Friday November 5, 2010. at The Chapel in the Pines in Seven Lakes with the Rev. Don Welch officiating. Dr. Rudd will be interred in Seven Lakes Cemetery alongside his wife in a private graveside service. Dr. Rudd resided twenty four years in Seven Lakes where he was a member of the Seven Lakes Garden Club and the Chapel in the Pines. He grew up on a farm in western Kentucky, and earned a Bachelors Degree after attending three years at Murray State College. He later served in the US Navy during WWII as a Lieutenant, and earned his Master‘s and PHD degrees from Ohio State University in Mathematics‘ Education. His distinguished career included appointments at Ohio State University; Tufts University, Boston, MA; Kabul University, Kabul Afghanistan; and State University of New York, Fredonia, NY; A truly goodhearted gentleman who retained his sense of humor to the end of his ninety years. Dr. Rudd loved gardening, fishing, boating, music, sports, the simple joys of life, and his friends and family. Dr. Rudd was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years in 2009 Barbara Rudd. Dr. Rudd is survived by his daughter, Linda Rudd and husband Thomas Wentworth of Raleigh, NC; a son, Lawrence Rudd and wife Krista of Henderson, NV; granddaughters Addie Hirschten and husband Sean of Bloomington, Indiana; Beth Wooten of Raleigh, NC; Sarah and Svetlana Rudd of Henderson, NV; and a great-grand daughter, Emmaline Hirschten of Bloomington, Indiana.
