Joseph ‘Joe’ Kutch

Joseph “Joe” Kutch, age 90 of Pinehurst, NC died at Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, October 11, 2010. He was born on August 30, 1920 in Clinton, Indiana, and graduated from Indiana University. he worked as a copy editor at the Gary Post Tribune for 9 one space½ years, where he also served as president of the Gary Newspaper Guild for five years, and the vice-president of the Midwest Council, American Newspaper Guild for three years. He moved to New York and worked for 33 years as editor and communications director for the Transport Workers Union. He served on the Nassau County (N.Y.) Democratic Committee for eight years. Joe was a WWII veteran. He retired to Cape Cod, Mass., for 10 years before moving to Pinehurst a year ago. He was an enthusiast of current events, politics, news and sports—particularly his beloved Chicago Cubs. He is survived by his wife, Joan McNamara Kutch; three children, Betsey McCann of Pinehurst; Ellyn Kutch of San Francisco, California; and Thomas Kutch of Raleigh, North Carolina; sisters Pat Martin and Joanne Reid; and brother, Rev. Father Peter Kutch; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children; Caroline, Leo and Mary Ann. Burial services will be announced at a later time. Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst is serving the family.
