Sam E. Thompson

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4: 6-8 (KJV) Mr. Sam E. Thompson peacefully answered the call of his heavenly Father on Sunday evening, October 3, 2010 at his home. Sam was born on July 7, 1943 in Florence County, the son of Samuel and Lottie Abraham Thompson. He attended the public schools of Florence County. At an early age, he received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined New Grace Temple Church, Florence, SC. Later in life, he joined Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the Gospel Choir. He also ushered at Goodland African Methodist Episcopal Church, Effingham, SC. Sam E. Thompson did not know a stranger; he was a friend to everyone he met. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two aunts, Louise Robinson and Beatrice Graham. Left to cherish his memories are: a cousin, Ora Lee (John) Conyers of Detroit, MI; caregivers, Joyce (Sammie) Cooper of Effingham, SC; other family members, Mildred Jenkins of Hampton, VA; Leon Carter, Robert (Gladys) Carter, Marion (Nettie) Carter, John (Rosa) Wilson, George (Thomasena) Thomas and Kenneth (Laura) Carter, all of Effingham, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
