Mary Josephine (Jo) Clark

5/5/1933 – 10/3/2010 Funeral services for Mary Josephine (Jo) Galloway Clark, age 77, who passed away October 2, 2010 after a long illness, will be held Wednesday at 12:30pm at the Chapel Norton Funeral Home. Dr. Milton G. Frazier will officiate. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at the Florence National Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday 5-7pm at the Funeral Home. Jo was born in the Lydia Community, a daughter of the late Henry Lee & Letha Barnes Galloway. She graduated from Lydia High School in 1952. She served 5 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including basic training at Parris Island and assignments in San Francisco, CA and Camp Lejeune, N.C. After being discharged from service, she was employed by Hartsville Furniture Company, Byerly Hospital, Carolina Pines RMC and Clanton‘s Auto Auction. She also worked with Darlington County Board of Elections as a poll manager. Mary Jo was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Explorers in Christ Sunday School Class. She was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #53 where she served as financial officer. She was a lifetime member of the Julian Dusenbury Detachment of the Marine Corps League where she held the office of Sergeant-At-Arms. She was also a member of the Women Marines Association and Eastern Star Chapter #91. Surviving are two sisters, Betty Gene Galloway Morrison and Deanna (Bunny) Galloway Rhodes, both of Hartsville, nieces & nephews, Kay Morrison (Mike) Mercer, F.F. “Bubba” (Francis) Morrison, Frankie (Doris) Morrison, Robin Morrison (Mike) Hudson, Gale Galloway (Larry) Smith and Tilden Lee (Debbie) Galloway. She is also survived by numerous Great Nieces & Nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Levan B. Clark, brother, Tilden Lee Galloway and a nephew, William L. “Billy” Morrison. The family would like to thank Mrs. Debbie Winburn for her years of compassion and care of Mary Jo.
