L. Thomas ‘Tommy’ Freeman

L. Thomas “Tommy” Freeman, 69, of Hill Creek Road went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, October 4, after a valiant battle with cancer. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel office officiated by the Rev. Harry Clark. A committal service will precede the memorial service at McGill Cemetery in Wagram. He is survived by a son, Lonnie Thomas “Tommy” Freeman, Jr. of Wagram and friend, Stephanie Parsons of Wagram; two daughters, Natalie L. Smith of Laurinburg and Lisa Ann Speros and husband Steve of Marion, NC; two brothers, Curtis Freeman and wife Barbara of Huntersville, and Wayne Freeman and wife Rachel of Laurinburg; a sister, Delma Reynolds and husband Billy of Rockingham; a special friend, Vickie Nelson of Wagram; and five grandchildren, Shannon Smith, McKenzie Speros, Blake Speros, Madison Speros, and Collin Parsons.. Born April 20, 1941 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Samuel T. and Bertha Beasley Freeman. He graduated from Laurinburg High School and attended the University of North Carolina. Tommy started working with Southern National Bank and in 1970 started Freeman Home Builders. Known to many as “Big Tommy,” he enjoyed building homes, was a Mr. Fix-it to many, enjoyed gardening, shagging, and crab legs, and loved women and charred steaks. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
