CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Hornets officials says the team has acquired forward Gordon Hayward, and unprotected second-round draft picks from the Boston Celtics in the 2023-24 season, in exchange for a protected 2022 second-draft pick, as part of a new sign-and-trade deal.

“We are thrilled to welcome Gordon and his family to the Hornets organization and Charlotte,” says Kupchak. “Gordon is an NBA All-Star, a proven scorer and playmaker and a tough competitor that will fit well into the needs of our team. We believe that his basketball talent, NBA experience and veteran leadership will make a positive impact on our young, talented team as it continues to develop.”
Hayward has played in over 641 regular-season games with the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics over his 10 year career in the NBA, officials say.
Charlotte Hornets President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Mitch Kupchak says the team has waived forwards Nicolas Batum and Ray Spalding.
Batum played in 22 games with the Hornets over the 2019-20 season, and was the 25th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, officials say.

Hornets officials say Spalding originally signed a two-way contract with the team on January 15th, 2020.

Spalding has played in 16 games for the Greensboro Swarm in the 2019-20 NBA season, and was the 56th overall draft pick in the 2028 NBA Draft, officials say.
