Georgetown County Launches Hammock Coast

GEORGETOWN, SC – Georgetown County’s Tourism Management Commission is kicking-off a brand campaign designed to enhance Georgetown County’s reputation as a travel and tourism destination in the southeast. The campaign will introduce the county’s new brand identity – “Hammock Coast” – and feature some of the county’s best assets in a tongue-in-cheek style advertising campaign. The campaign is intended to support growth in travel and tourism, a main economic driver for the county.

“We are excited to unveil the new Hammock Coast brand. Through this strategic rebranding and marketing campaign, we seek to drive economic growth in travel and tourism to benefit our local businesses and residents and ultimately support the entire region,” said Annette Fisher, president of Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce.

The “Hammock Coast” brand campaign will include a new logo, print and online advertising, social media and public relations efforts, and collateral materials such as bumper stickers, along with a rebranded website, each calling attention to the area’s undiscovered charm, laid-back atmosphere and spectacular outdoor attractions. The print and online advertisements will focus on the theme, “Please don’t come to Hammock Coast,” a playful reflection of the area’s reputation as a sought-after vacation destination hidden among high-profile neighboring districts. The website and social media elements, including a new Twitter handle @HammockCoastSC and Facebook fan page, will be launch on May 19.

The campaign was developed by Charleston-based marketing agency, Rawle Murdy Associates, following several months of research that included surveys of past visitors, outreach to local businesses, and planning with Tourism Management Commission executives. The research uncovered tourists’ motivations and sentiments about Georgetown County with many calling it one of “South Carolina’s best-kept secrets” and “the most relaxing place in the world.” These findings served as a foundation for the county’s new brand campaign.

The “Hammock Coast” brand campaign will roll-out over the next few weeks with print and online tactics reaching travelers throughout the country. For more information about Georgetown County, please visit
