PENNIES FOR PUPS was a fundraiser to assist the Humane Society of Marlboro County to provide for the homeless and abused animals in the County. We are primarily a group of about 50 dues paying members ($15/year basic dues) only seven or eight consistently help with events. Five of whom are senior citizens.
The Humane Society of Marlboro County a 501(c) 3 is attempting to find grants which will help them to either purchase or build a building where animals can be housed until such time as they are adopted. Currently dogs, which make up the largest number of animals, are being fostered by individuals. We are finding that many grants have a stipulation that the organization already have a building which puts us out of contention from the beginning.
McColl Primary and Middle School was approached about the Pennies for Pups program. Principal, Mr. Macky Norton, approved of the idea. Over about a six week period the children from pre-K through the 8th grade worked hard collecting spare change to donate to the program. The class which brought in the most money would win a pizza party. The school brought in over $2,300 with the 6th grade contributing the most for an individual class.
The McColl Primary and Middle School has challenged other schools in Marlboro County to accept the challenge of the Pennies for Pups program in the hope of not only raising more funds but also raising awareness of the need for compassion toward animals and the responsibility of humans to spay and/or neuter their pets.
PENNIES FOR PUPS IN MCCOLL IS A WINNER!
