Tipping the Scale in the Right DirectionBy Health DayEat less, move more and .. Find out!
For many of us, it will mean a renewed interest in diet and exercise. A new study in the journal Preventive Medicine suggests there's something else you should add to your list to find success on the scale! Researchers at the University of Illinois looked at government data covering three specific areas--- annual BMI, average daily caloric intake- and the number of vehicle miles driven. Using advanced mathematical models, they discovered obesity, calories and automobile travel are related! The data showed the more we Americans ate over the years and the more we drove, the higher our Body Mass Index. If you subtract just 1 mile of daily driving and convert to walking instead...you'd lose about half a pound over 6 years. In comparison, cutting 100 calories a day would help you drop about a third of a pound over 3 years. Bottom line: move more, eat less...and park the car. It could add up to better health in 2013.
