New ADHD Survey

By Health Day

S. children has been diagnosed with ADHD, according to the CDC.

A new government survey shows about one in every 10 American kids has been diagnosed with ADHD. But there is some good news. the rate of increase is slowing.

The survey showed that 11 percent or 6.4 million children ages 4 to 17 were diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in 2011-2012. That's up from 9.5% in 2007.

Boys are still diagnosed more often than girls...one in five high school age boys versus one in 11 high school age girls.

6.1 percent of U.S. children 4-17 years of age were taking medication for ADHD in 2011-2012.

In the mid-2000s ADHD diagnosis increased at a rate of about 6 percent per year. From 2007 to 2011 that number slowed to 4 percent.
