School Bus Safety
By Health Day
The experts at Cincinnati Children's Hospital offer this advice.
Make sure your children arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is due... Discourage horseplay and instruct them to stay out of the street while they're waiting.
Once they climb aboard...encourage your kids to stay seated, facing forward, and to keep their head and arms inside. And no shouting or fooling around...extra noise and activity can distract the driver.
When it's time to get off...students should wait until the bus comes to a full stop.
If they have to cross the street, they should walk at least 10 feet in front of the bus so the driver can see them. It's best to have your child look left, right, left before stepping into the street to make sure no cars are coming.
One more important note, no talking to strangers when walking to and from the bus stop.
